Josh Morin is a singer, songwriter, producer, and spiritual advisor who is high off the release of his new album, Let Me Into Heaven. As an astrology enthusiast with an Aquarius Sun, Libra Moon, and Taurus Rising, Josh is intuitively in tune with the astrology of the times. I initially planned to interview him for the Libra New Moon that occurred two weeks ago, but since the New Moon was conjunct with the Moon in his birth chart, he was too busy dreaming up a serve and producing his album. Now that his album is out, Josh is here to get into the nitty-gritty of his creative process and spiritually advise us for the Taurus Full Moon and the following moon cycle towards the Scorpio New Moon on the 20th.

Holy Basil: My first question for you is, how has the journey been, going through the Libra New Moon two weeks ago, and then releasing your album, and now heading into the Taurus Full Moon?

Josh Morin: For the Libra New Moon, I felt that it was an incredible time to transform all that has hurt me over the last couple of years and turn it into artwork instead of keeping it inside of me. I took these universally understandable experiences, like betrayal, exclusion, and isolation, and balanced their energies, which I feel like Libra really excels in. Going into the Taurus Full Moon, my priorities have really changed. I kind of felt like a suffering artist before, but honestly, I feel confident right now. For the first time, I’m not scared of being seen, heard, or judged. I’m not afraid of people loving or hating it, I’m not afraid of anything.

Holy Basil: Yessssss! I’m glad that you’re finally feeling like the star you are.

Josh Morin: The Taurus Full Moon, I consider it a time to be indulgent, this album is very self-indulgent. I wanted this album to sound similar to what I’d typically listen to while dealing with these intense emotions. I told myself that it’s okay if it’s just catchy songs. With the Libra Moon energy, I was able to take my influences and really integrate them into a universally understandable experience that is accessible while maintaining experimentalism.

Holy Basil: I feel like I really hear that Pisces Venus of yours come through. It’s very Venusian and emotional.

Josh Morin: My Pisces energy allows me to experience otherworldly amounts of emotion. I can’t contain it within my body, so I turn it into artwork. It was extremely emotional! I felt a sense of destruction while I was creating this album; I was not ashamed of it. If I’m emotional, you all can be emotional with me! I believe the pressure to be camera-ready at any moment while creating can diminish creativity. I like to let myself go insane, then once I’m finished, have an entire day to myself to structure myself back together once again. I believe balance is important, but it’s okay to disrespect that balance at times, for your creativity.

Holy Basil: You can really hear the depths of your emotions come out as you listen through the album. I understand having to disrupt that balance at times. I’ve been there!

Josh Morin: It’s very destructive, brooding, and indulgent. It’s unironically the stereotype of “You don’t understand me, don’t even try to understand me!” I don’t believe it was intentional, but I was genuinely letting my younger self express themselves through the current me, which is how I ended up with this sound and aesthetic for the album, it’s audibly emotional, distraught, it’s what you can’t show your therapist.

Holy Basil: I love how undeniably and authentically emo you are. It’s so refreshing. Is there any particular placement you felt you invoked as you worked on this album? I know I just brought up your Pisces Venus, but I was curious as to what you think.

Josh Morin: There are a couple of things, but I really think my Aries Saturn influenced the way I worked 12-24 hours a day, practically the entire month to get it done on time. Even afterwards, there were issues I was thankfully able to resolve. I learned through failing repeatedly. My Scorpio Mars was influencing my intense, destructive, untamable emotions; I kept imagining the world ending. I feel like an immortal angel who is being injured by arrows, swords, bullets impaling their body, but since they’re immortal, it just makes them stronger, which I assume is my Pisces Venus influencing me, since I’ve been hurt endlessly, but it only strengthens my intuition. I’ve always related to these types of characters. I’d assume the Aquarius influence is the futuristic sound I unintentionally end up creating when producing instruments. As a whole, why am I not allowed to be sad? Why aren’t we accepting as a society of “negative” emotions, and what makes them “negative”? We should be able to treat all emotions with respect.

Holy Basil: I really respect and love the rawness.

Josh Morin: It felt very vulnerable. I love imperfections, we should leave them! It’s what differentiates commercial from independent, and with the rise of artificial intelligence generating artwork with a sentence and the click of a button, it allows us to maintain the humanity which I’d imagine in the future will have its own category, “human artwork”.

Holy Basil: I’ve been feeling this recently, too, with my own craft, as I’ve begun to make beaded jewelry and wire pieces again. I’ve really been playing around with the concept of purposefully messy but undeniably human-made wiring on my jewelry. I was initially inspired by handmade South Asian jewelry from back home, and how it can sometimes be so messily constructed, but ultimately, that is what makes it so beautiful. Eventually, it did turn more into an anti-robot and pro-human sentiment. It’s been really fun embracing my inherent human messiness. Do you have any affirmations or mantras that you feel embody your album?

Josh Morin: While I was working on the album, it was the most in touch with myself I’ve ever felt. I felt very primitive despite working on a computer. I kept repeating to myself whenever I felt even the slightest doubt that I am the only human that can create this, and I am being guided by the universe to create what it needs, I felt it was beyond my own comprehension as a human being. The title of the album is slightly delusional, but I imagined working with an angel that’s suffered as much as I have needing a human to express it through. It’s okay to be delusional; it lets you create incredible artwork.

Holy Basil: The teaaaaaaaa.

Josh Morin: I was like, “What if there’s an angel in the sky suffering and I’m the only person who can help it?”

Holy Basil: That makes me think about how you told me that you think the Sun is scared of your album, but you think the Moon loves it because the Sun was always down as you worked on this album.

Josh Morin: I really relate to the Moon because it only reflects the light and is not the source of the light, as depressing as that sounds. It’s comforting.

Holy Basil: Wait, that’s really meditative. I’m gonna have to sit and reflect on that one. Josh Morin alwaayysss has the major spiritual insights. Talking about the Moon and spiritual insights, do you have any advice for creatives for this upcoming Taurus New Moon?

Josh Morin: I believe it’s important to let go of judgment while working with your creativity, you’re collaborating with yourself and the universe. This collective will always guide you in the direction you need to be going if you listen to it. Don’t be afraid to indulge in what makes you different, even if that’s what you’re most insecure about. Usually, our biggest insecurities are our biggest strengths. It’s what proves your independence while also honouring your community, as there’s guaranteed to be a person who has similar experiences. You could inspire them by embracing yourself. I believe with this Taurus New Moon, it’s important to have self-care days and time alone to experiment with your creativity. If who you idolize is the sun, let yourself be the moon or switch the positions, you have incredible possibilities during this time to establish yourself internally and externally.

Holy Basil: Recently, as I write my horoscopes, I always find myself wanting to write down, “don’t forget to take care of yourself,” and “be raw”. I feel like the collective really needs these sentiments nowadays. What is next for Josh Morin?

Josh Morin: I believe that the creativity I’ve planned, but is subject to change, is an apocalypse, who doesn’t love a fictional apocalypse? I’m inspired by the universe and the creativity I consume, and it’s what I believe both have in common. Currently, I’m hoping the world doesn’t collapse, but I’ll definitely write about how it could. I want to explore an album that blends my personal emotions with the concept of technology replacing religious figures, spirituality, and astrology. I’ve had the idea for technological angels, gods, and creatures in my head for a while now. I love technology as much as I’m afraid of it, in which my love is unconditional.
